About Me
I am the proud owner/roommate of three Finnish Spitz. The oldest, more "mature" (pronounced ma-toor--trust me on that) one is my male, Kodi, who has joined me on the show circuit and in the obedience ring. Then came RockZ, who is anything but mature--but who definitely adds life to the house. She is already making a splash in conformation--and in the backyard fountain. Obedience and even rally are not her favorites: agility is more her speed. Kodi is my protector, and RockZ is my bed buddy. And now Amethyst has joined the pack. She is the daughter of Kodi and RockZ, also making quite the splash in the conformation ring, though not nearly the whirlwind her mother is (which is good—no critical damage control needed).
I've been involved in the dog world for over twenty years. I started with Alaskan Malamutes. They're still my first love, but even as a newcomer I knew eventually I would have a hard time keeping up with them in the show ring, so I started looking for a smaller dog as a "fall-back." A friend found out about Finnish Spitz and gave one a try. At first I said the same thing so many others have, "A what?" But it wasn't long before I decided this was the breed I had been looking for.
Overall, they are one of the happiest breeds I've met. With very few exceptions, they all feel that every day is worth smiling over. That was the best reason for choosing them as my next canine companion. No matter how bad of a day I think I've had, there's a smiling Finkie face greeting me at my door and reminding me that life is to not only enjoyed, but celebrated.
Although I do not currently own or breed Alaskan Malamutes, I still love them. I raised them, showed them, did weight pulls with them, and ran in several sled dog races (always voted prettiest team on the trail, though never the fastest). I had a couple of dogs in the Top Ten nationally, and number one in my region. Check my "Links" page for more information on this wonderful breed, and for two great breeders I recommend.
